Maltodextrin
What it is
A lightly converted corn starch powder with very little sweetness. It dissolves easily and has almost no flavor of its own.
What it does
It carries and protects other ingredients: spray-dried palatants, flavors, oils, vitamins and probiotics. It adds bulk and body without adding sweetness, and helps powders flow and dissolve.
Where it’s used
Dry food: carrier in palatant and coating systems.
Treats: bulking agent and binder.
Supplements: carrier for actives in powders, capsules and tablets.
Livestock feed: carrier in premixes and milk replacers.
Wet food: body in some sauces.
