Clean-Label Functional Starch
What it is
Corn or tapioca starch made functional by a physical process instead of a chemical modification. It declares as starch, corn starch or tapioca starch, not modified food starch.
What it does
It gives much of the heat, shear and freeze-thaw tolerance of a modified starch, so you can clean up the ingredient panel without losing your gravy or gel. Cook-up and instant versions are available.
Where it’s used
Wet food: gravy, sauce and gel body under a cleaner label.
Treats: soft and semi-moist treats, toppers and broths.
Dry food: binding in premium kibble lines.
Supplements: thickener for label-sensitive products.
Livestock feed: rarely needed.
