Citric Acid and Citrates
What it is
Citric acid made by fermentation, in granular, fine and liquid forms, plus sodium and potassium citrate.
What it does
Citric acid lowers pH to help preservation and set gels. The citrates buffer pH so it stays where you want it, and can help keep minerals in solution.
Where it’s used
Wet food: pH control in cans, pouches and gravies.
Treats: preservation in semi-moist treats; acid for pectin gels.
Supplements: flavor and pH control in chewables and liquids.
Livestock feed: acidifier in some feeds and water treatments.
Dry food: antioxidant support in fat coatings.
Forms and packaging: Granular or fine powder in bags or super sacks; liquid in bulk.
